TCM Therapies

In addition to the above therapies, Wood Family Chiropractic also uses a number of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) techniques to treat patients.  These include:

Acupuncture
TCM views the body as an intricate system of organs connected by pathways known as meridians, which surface on the skin at specific points.  Good health depends on the smooth flow of energy or Qi (pronounced "chee") through these meridians.  When the meridians are blocked, the system is disrupted and the body gets sick.  Acupuncture works to correct the imbalance of energy flow by inserting ultra-thin needles under the skin to stimulate specific points in the body.  This unblocks the channels and encourages an even flow of Qi, which restores the body’s balance and relieves pain and other symptoms.

Electroacupuncture
This therapy is essentially Acupuncture with electrical stimulation.  It involves the attachment of wire leads to the Acupuncture needles, which stimulates the points with greater intensity.  This therapy is especially effective for pain relief.

Moxibustion
Moxibustion applies focused heat from a slow burning herb over Acupuncture points to stimulate the flow of Qi
.  It may be used to correct a variety of ailments, including weakness, fatigue, digestive disorders and gynecological problems.  A condition that does not respond to Acupuncture alone may be helped by Moxibustion.

Cupping
In this therapy, glass cups are applied to Acupuncture points or affected parts of the body.  It helps stimulate blood circulation, improves the flow of energy, and removes toxins from the body by applying vacuum suction to the skin.

Herbal Therapy
Oriental Herbal Medicine employs carefully designed formulas composed of many different herbal combinations.  Formulas are customized to each patient, depending on the current medical condition.  These herbal formulas are extremely effective in treating imbalances.

Therapeutic Exercises
TCM offers numerous energy-enhancing exercises, such as Tai Chi, Qi Gong and meditation.  These ancient Chinese exercises provide many benefits.  As the TCM practitioner will demonstrate, these exercises take very little time to practice and do not require a large workout space or special equipment.

All our therapies work to correct
ailments naturally, without the use of
drugs or surgery.
