About Traditional Chinese
Medicine
 What
is Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a complete system
of healing, which has proven its effectiveness in Eastern Asia for over
4,000 years. As a result of its proven effectiveness, an
increasing number of Americans have used TCM as a tool for fighting
disease and preventing illness.
How
does TCM work?
TCM utilizes a holistic approach where the whole person
is examined, not just the symptoms of the illness. The general
theory of TCM is based on the premise that there are patterns of energy
flow called Qi (pronounced chee) throughout the body, which are
related to the organs and muscular system. When the energy flow is
disrupted by various conditions, pain or illness result. TCM works
to restore the proper flow of energy, which helps the body heal itself
and prevent future illness. The most common methods of healing
used by TCM practitioners include Acupuncture, Electroacupuncture,
Moxibustion, Cupping, and Chinese Herbal Therapy.
 Are
Acupuncture needles safe?
Yes. The government requires Acupuncturists to
follow very strict sterilization procedures to prevent the risk of
transmitting communicable diseases from patient to patient. This
practice uses pre-sterilized, disposable needles that are regulated by
the FDA.
 Is
Acupuncture covered by medical insurance?
Yes! Many insurance companies and workers
compensation programs cover Acupuncture. Ask your insurance
company about coverage or reimbursement.
